14 June 2026 - The record calls this “significant oedema in both pelvic limbs”. The bloods that morning showed a third of his red cells gone. The phone call that evening: “all blood tests seem normal and I am not concerned.”
16 June 2026 - 10:11. The phone call to me: “Amos has been fine overnight, not eaten but happy to walk out of kennel, happy for him to go home today… Current balance at £8847 but with last nights and todays charges added will be around £9200.” The examination notes beneath it, same entry: “Discomfort and slow getting up and down in PLs (assisted with sling)… very bruised and enlarged testicles, oedema in both PLs static.”

16-17 June 2026 - The first return home

16 June 2026
17 June 2026 - the first day home. 04:27: “laid on his side in urine and hasn’t moved from that position all night.” 12:23: “lifting left pelvic limb like nerve root signature and occasionally knuckling… can be still expected after surgery, it was a very traumatic surgery… re admission on boarding fee.”
17 June 2026, 20:15, Pride’s record: “lay down at bottom of garden, eyes closed and FLs shaking.” Eight hours earlier, offered readmission “on boarding fee”; the day before, “happy for him to go home”. Readmitted 22:59

17-22 June 2026 - The second Pride admission

The only time he left Pride better than when I dropped him off.

22 June 2026 - Discharged from Pride Four days on antibiotics, started on 18 June for “inflammatory vs infectious lesions”. Pride’s own notes: “Much better compared to Monday”; “overall much more comfortable”. Sent home with “Amox clav 500mg BID for 10 more days.” No indication provided. The course ran out on 1 July.

2 July 2026 - Back of a pet ambulance. He was in far too much pain for me to move him.

3-11 July 2026 - The third Pride admission

7 July 2026 - I visit him at Pride. The resident’s plan the day before: “To stop methadone and monitor response… To book a visit/discharge, as I would like to show the CT to the owner.” The chart that evening: “Temp ^. Put on fan”; “sx site v hot to touch”; “lost 4kg weight”. Pride’s record of the visit itself: nothing. No vet wrote an entry on 7 July. The day’s lines are a nurse’s “Overall comfortable, no concerns. Eating well”, a weight down to 30.4 kg, and a bill: “Boarding Fee - 24 hours 07/07”.

7 July 2026 - My email the next morning: “The Amos I saw yesterday appeared to be in considerable pain.”
11 July 2026 - discharge. 04:41, the chart: “sx site still hot to touch… rf looks slightly more swollen again.” 07:38, my email: “has he been checked for infection?”
11 July 2026 - 11:49, the head of service, after 90 minutes: “Amos has shown progressive clinical improvement… we considered him suitable for discharge.” Nothing in his note about infection, temperature or CRP. Weight on the way in, 3 July: 34.7 kg. On the way out: 29.2 kg.

28 July - Radiographs taken at Gatehouse, Bingley Prides record: "Osteolytic changes in both endplates (L7 and S1), with no other severe abnormalities noted. Implants in place and no halo or implant failure noted. Changes suspected to be related to the trauma on the 3rd of July, and the bone changes noted now as expected with radiographs, due to delayed radiographic signs (expected). Unable to fully exclude other changes without advanced imaging but then contacted Amos RVS. RVS reported that Amos in their assessment is doing well, CRP is 12.5 and no abnormalitie sin bloods (mild lymphopaenia, normal neutrophils, increased glucose). Suspected stress leucogram. With the radiographs and the investigations performed at RVS, it appears clear that there is no sign of osteomyelitis and this is the natural process after the displacement of L7S1 seen on the 3rd July with us.With the radiographs and the investigations performed at RVS, it appears clear that there is no sign of osteomyelitis and this is the natural process after the displacement of L7S1 seen on the 3rd July with us. Discussed all this and the findings on the radiographs and RVS happy with this, agreeing complewtely on the clinical picture at this stage."
Liverpool SATH reporting on the same x-rays on 30 July: "lumbosacral endplate destruction, collapse of the disc space and periosteal reaction"
